YOU ARE NOW PARTICIPATING IN THE CULTURAL EVENT OF BLASEBALL
BLASEBALL was a fantasy sports horror game created by The Game Band that
originally released on July 20th, 2020.
As a web browser baseball simulator that you only "played" by
betting on and spectating games, BLASEBALL had little in the way of a
concrete narrative in it's conception. Its bizarre and terrifying in-game
happenings like that of players being incinerated by "rogue" umpires or
having a torrential downpour of peanuts interrupt a championship match had
always been a staple aspect of BLASEBALL, but it wasn't until the fanbase
started to come together to provide their own interpretations for the
possible stories behind these events, and the characters involved in them,
that BLASEBALL found its identity as a tragic, heartfelt and hillarious
celebration of mass-communal improv.
The randomly-generated players that populated each team weren't known to
have concrete pasts or appearances; such details had always been within the
hands of the fans, who shaped player identities based on anything from game
performance to a joke extrapolation of their name. Ask any BLASEBALL fan who
their favorite player was and why, and you'll get a unique take on a
character almost every time.
The end of BLASEBALL was announced on June 2nd, 2023, after extensive delays
in its development due to financial difficulties and sustainability
concerns.
